The data are available through the Data Sharing for Demographic Research (DSDR) project housed within the Interuniversity Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR).

ICPSR released the RDSL study under two separate study numbers (34626 and 36565). ICPSR 34626 features public and highly restricted versions of the Baseline and Supplement Survey data and the Journal data. A restricted version of the Baseline and Supplement Survey dataset with less stringent data security requirements is available as ICPSR 36565.

To obtain the restricted and highly restricted datasets, researchers must agree to the terms and conditions of a Restricted Data Use Agreement in accordance with existing ICPSR and DSDR servicing policies.

Codebooks for the Baseline and Supplement Survey data and the Journal data specify the variables available in the public, restricted, and highly restricted versions of the datasets. The Baseline and Supplement Survey codebook can be viewed here. The Journal codebook can be viewed here. The codebooks are also available for immediate download from the ICPSR website.
